Early CNY Reunion Dinner @ Gu Ma Jia

Thanks to Gu Ma Jia's invitation, we had the chance to taste nice home-cooked dishes at the restaurant. The food served was yummylicious and gave me a feeling as if we were coming to a relative's home for dinner.

About The Founder
The founder, Mdm Chan Mei Yan is the face of Gu Ma Jia and the restaurant is established since November 2009. She used to live in Pulau Ubin and literally grew up cooking dishes for her sibling since the age of 7.

She opened a food stall that sold chicken rice and wanton noodles and even had a hand in steamboat business. In 2007, she also opened a Chinese restaurant in Shanghai which served authentic home-cooked food.

All their dishes use less oil and less MSG. They do not use instant processed food or preservatives. All their ingredients are bought fresh from the market daily. Gu Ma's business philosophy is to serve every customer with love and passion.

Many awards are displayed on the wall...

Ubin Lala Bee Hoon
This is one of my favourites, personally found that lala and the bee hoon in gravy taste just nice on my taste bud. The lala is fresh and the bee hoon is moist.

Gu Ma Signature Traditional Bean Curd Soup
The soup is very flavourful, packed with lots of nutritious ingredients. It is boiled for 6 hours with salted fish head, Chinese ham, pork ribs, peanuts and fresh bean curb. Definitely it is a soup packed with so much goodness!

Homemade Yam Ring with Kyoto Pork Ribs
The sweet & sour pork ribs complement very well with the yam ring. The yam ring is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. This dish is definitely one of my children's favourite!

XO Prawn Noodles
This looks like the improvised version of prawn noodles soup. These prawns are cooked in special homemade superior XO sauce with noodles. The soup base is very strong and slightly spicy due to the cut chillies.

Satay Cuttle Fish
The cuttle fish is quite soft and tender, taste extremely yummy with their special homemade satay sauce.

Claypot Pork in Sesame Oil
This pork is soft and tender and cooked together with premium Chinese Wine, ginger, black fungus and sesame oil. It will be a very comforting dish during rainy days.

We also tried other dishes such as....

Herbal Chicken

Lotus Leaves Rice

Drunken Prawns

Thumbs up from the kids!
